Bringing Your Dog to Work adds to Employee Engagement

Xee2It may be National Take your Dog to Work Day, but here at Perks, this is more of an everyday occurrence. Being an employee engagement focused company, we understand the benefits associated with keeping employees satisfied and focused, but what many of you may not know is that we ourselves have a secret employee engagement weapon in our midst. One that gives us joy, lifts our spirits, and begs for walks. His name is Xee. That’s short for Xerox.  Xee is Perk’s mascot. Our CEO Jeff Ford brings him into work every day where he manages to bring a smile to everyone’s face he meets. He loves running around the office, getting his ears scratched, and taking occasional naps underneath the conference room table.

The fact of the matter is that bringing your dog to work is not an all-around accepted phenomenon. Many companies have rules and regulations set in place concerning animals in the office that must not be broken. But, in my opinion, it’s a symbol of having an open mind, breaking tradition, and creating a culture of innovation and compassion in the office. Some companies may stick up their noses, but we beg to differ. Besides the obvious visible benefits that we’ve experienced here at Perks because of our furry friend, there are numerous studies linking office dogs to increased employee engagement and job satisfaction.

According to a 2012 study conducted by Virginia Commonwealth University employees at a dinnerware manufacturing company who brought their dogs to work compared to employees who didn’t experienced lower levels of stress and stronger feelings of organizational support. Fifty percent of the employees who brought their dogs to work reported increased productivity.

When it comes to increasing employee engagement, it’s important to be open-minded. There’s not a one size fits all solution to your company’s productivity woes, each company is unique. Here at Perks we promote employee motivation, employee engagement, and having fun. At the end of the day it’s about making people happy and creating an environment that encourages them to flourish in whatever they are doing. Got some animal lovers in your office? Maybe it’s time your company ruffed things up in the traditional corporate world with a new furry friend.

Tell us,  what are you doing?
